VITASCIRISE proudly presents our first event: “Wanna Be a Scientist? Research Seminar”

In partnership with Cycle Sustain, we hosted our debut seminar at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA, bringing together passionate young minds and inspiring scientists.
A huge thank you to our incredible guest speakers — Dr. Donald L. Smith, Professor at McGill University and lead researcher at BioMass Canada, who shared insights on plant-microbe interactions and nitrogen fixation in crops, and Joana G., R&D Analyst at PepsiCo, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at her PhD journey and research on Campylobacter jejuni, a major foodborne pathogen.
This seminar was designed to help students explore what it really means to be a scientist — from daily life in research to the real-world impact of scientific work. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
Highlights with Dr. Smith
Check out some great questions from our curious 11th graders! 🌱 Dr. Smith shared his expertise on CRISPR in plant science, climate change think tanks, and sustainable agriculture through biochar and intercropping. His biggest takeaway? We need more young scientists tackling global food security. 🌍

Highlights with Joana
Check out some of the thoughtful questions from our brilliant 11th-grade students! From food safety technology to scientific mindset, Joana shared insightful answers about the future of biosensors, damage control in recalls, and how real science often means revising your original hypothesis. 👩🔬✨
